This session will present the results of a foreign language methodological experiment that tests pedagogical theories aimed at improving students’ retention of material. One section of beginning languages courses (German and French) will be taught selected content using a “high leverage teaching practice” concerning comprehensible input (from Glisan and Donato, Enacting the Work of Language Instruction, 2017), while a second section of each course will combine that practice with cognitive psychology approaches from Make it Stick, (Brown, Roediger and McDaniel).
